This week we planted some fava beans in our new labrynth. We also removed the remay cloth from our cover crop to reveal a beautiful green bed of nitrogen-fixing plants to help build healthy soil from the wood chips delivered recently by ArboristNow. Finally, we began construction of a large compost bin that will hold all the finished compost we are making from our cafeteria fruits and veggies. Great job everyone!

Happy New Year! This week we returned from winter break and Project Week to check in on how our plants were coming along. The cover crop of clover, vetch, and rye was coming up nicely, thanks to the remay cloth we put down to keep those pesty pigeons from pecking out all of the seed, which they have done twice before. We also made some new compost from the cafeteria veggie scraps.
16 eager students participated in the "Gardening for a Healthy Planet" project all this week. Instead of regular classes, we worked in our garden toured the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, took a trip to Richmond to see the Urban Tilth garden at Verde Elementary school, and cooked up an awesome organic meal to share and celebrate our accomplishments. Check out the slideshow below to see some photos of the week! Thanks to all the students who participated! |
