Welcome to the last Monday garden club meeting of the year everybody! It's amazing that another year has gone by so quickly. Today, we did some watering in the front and the new garden. We also turned the soil and did some other maintenance as well. Meanwhile, Ms. Rosa cooked a delicious meal for the club using the fava beans from our garden, and a few fresh ingredients from our local market. Thanks Ms. Rosa, and thanks everyone for coming today. We hope to see you Thursday for our last Garden Club of the year!

Hi guys. Thank you for coming out for our weekend work day last Saturday. A great team of about 15 hard-working, fun-loving folks (students, parents, teachers, and community members) came out to enjoy the sun and help out with the new garden!
For those of you that couldn't join us, here's a list of what we did: -Started the construction of the greenhouse. -Built a new gravel ramp from the asphalt into the garden. -Sited 8 fruit/nut trees (apricot, almond, apple, pear) -Put mulch in the new trees. -Built 5 planting beds with mulch and topsoil. -Created our first permaculture bed of food plants: kale, beans, green peppers, chili peppers, onions, cilantro, chard, and lavender! Again, thank you all for coming out! We really appreciate all your help and for sticking with us through this project. More pictures of the work day can be viewed by clicking here. This week, we got a delivery of mulch, which was from a redwood tree removed in the Sunset district, from a tree company called ArboristNow. So today we continued to move mulch into place for future planting beds. We also bought over five fruit trees from Hayes Valley Farm into the garden for planting next weekend. It's nice to finally have some green there now. It's beginning to look like a garden! Thank you everyone for your participation. See you on Thursday! |
